Professionalism Coaching: Practical Help to Move Beyond a Setback or Crisis

Professionalism boards in schools or in state licensing boards require a multi-level response to help individuals through a serious lapse or setback. Coaching is one option that is practical and effective at getting back on track to practice.

If you have been referred by your school, employer, or public disciplinary board to address lapses in professionalism or violations of professional ethics codes, I welcome a conversation to discuss your situation in strict confidence. Professional identity focuses on the underlying reasons for lapses -- not on shallow judgments of your character or personality. I used a range of tools to help guide individuals toward realizing their goals and expanding their capacities. My coaching process is informed by theory and research in adult education, the psychology of adult development, wellness and well-being, emotion regulation. My past work as a domestic violence victim advocate informs me on how important it is to consider clients' past trauma histories and challenges in being perceived as an outsider or "the other."

I provide one-on-one coaching that helps identify factors that are keeping you from performing at your best in your training or on the job. I have worked with individuals facing challenges in a variety of settings in the community, including medical students at Quinnipiac University Frank Netter School of Medicine and law school graduates.  I have successfully helped hundreds of clients who are struggling with life issues in their personal relationships within community-based clinical mental health services. I also work closely with a network of licensed mental health therapists with expertise in professional identity who I can refer you to.
